Getting into the story...
Now that you have previewed your book, read to at least page 13 in Crispin and page 12 in Catherine, Called Birdy. In your own words, describe what their life is like. What parts of life seems good and what parts seem strange or unhappy? Write about 3 sentences. This is due by Thursday, February 16.

Crispin is living in miserable life with his mom dying and being a noble.Only if he knew how to get out of this cruel world it is not a happy place if i were him i would kill myself if i live in that time.he trys to escape but its hard to in that time,back then they would of just shot you dead and it would be over!
ReplyDeleteHer father is a king and her mother is still married to him. Cathrine wants to be a villager because she doesnt have so many rules to live on. It would be easier for her to live her life because she wouldnt have to live with so many rules. Her father owns 2 manor houses, but they arent so big.
ReplyDeletei agree with you beacuse she should live her life and no one should tell her wahat to do.in the book that i am reading(crispin)the boy doesnt have anywhere to live and in your book(catherin caled birdy) she has a plase to live and she still has her both parents with her and in my book the boys mom passed away and he has nowhere to go.
DeleteThe lifestyle of Catherine is something to be jelous of but also is not a lifestyle you would want. The part of her lifestyle that you would want is the she is a daughter of a nobel and has a suitable lifestyle. But there are definetly some things that you do not want in her life, like the fact that her father is trying to marry her off to any RICH lord that comes around looking for a wife. So far in her life i belive she is happy with her life and all it includes.
ReplyDeleteThe parts seem good was that they had a church so they had something thay could believe in.What doesn't seem unhappy is that now he will live alone with no one to take care of him.What doesn't seem un happy is that they bured down there house.
ReplyDeleteI think that his whole life is really bad because right after when his mom died the guy went up to him to him and told him to take the ox to him.The boy said he couldn't work no more and the guy said 'Then starve to death'. So im pretty sure he has a terible life.The priest sounds kinda nice because he told the boy to go with him to the church and pray with him.
ReplyDeleteThey're life was that they were being treated poorly. One part that is un happy is that their dad died from the plauge. The boy in the story doesn't even have a name.
ReplyDeleteIn the book Crispin his life in getting scary because he has people chasing him and trying to kill him. One good thing in his life is that he is not a slave but one bad thing about his life is that he is not free.Crispin was just a serf untill people thought that he was guilty and know he is in hiding.

DeleteI agree and disagree with you. I think it's not really scary but more thrilling, because of the townspeople trying to kill him. But, that's only my opinion. Also, I agree that it's good he isn't a slave, and that it's bad about Crispin not being free, but I would think its bad that his house got torn down and has no where to go.
Crispin and his mother's daily life seemed unhappy. Their daily life consisted of surviving. Of course to help them alive they had to work but the biggest chore was definitely surviving. Crispin and his mother had to work really hard to get what they needed. They didnt make enough to go buy food everyday so they had to save a lot. Crispin's life might not get any better at the rate he is going and the way he is surviving.

DeleteSo i got to page 13 and from what i can gather the life of "Asta's son" is not very well lived.He is fed barley bread and watered ale.Very rarely he got peas and with Gods good fortune maybe some meat.He sometimes even sleeps in the fields with his ox.So to sum it up his life,or any others life(with the exception of the kings and lords),was not very healthy or well lived.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I read up to page 13 of Crispin,I believe that his life is hard.When his mother died,it seems that not a lot of people cared.That is really sad.Although there are some good things.The outside environment lets them be very healthy.
ReplyDeleteWell crispins life seems okay for now because even though hes in danger he tries his best to keep going. Also he knows he didnt commit the crime so as long as he knows that he didnt do it then hes okay. I predict that at least the one person who will believe in him is the priest that loved him and his mom both.
ReplyDeleteCrispin's life is very complicated. His mother AND father died, he's a peasant, and he doesn't have alot of friends (not to mention John Aycliffe) . His life seems pretty unhappy at this part of the book. The book notes that bread costs a quarter penny, which is what Crispin's mother, Asta, made everyday. Now that she's gone, buying food will be much more difficult for him. I don't think his life is very pleasant right now. . . .

DeleteIn the book crispin,crispin has to run away from his old life and start a new one bear.When he meets Bear his life kinda changes he doesnt have to live his life alone. Crispin's life is is sad at first but his luck just might turn around.
ReplyDeleteThe medieval times seems like an unhappy time zone. Serf life seemed miserable and is a test for survival. The only thing i like about it is that the workers were paid a penny. Otherwise this time is not pleasant.

ReplyDeletewell if you didnt have a parent or didnt know how to raise yourself, you were most likely to starve and die. In the spring, fall, and summer (besides the holy days) they would work on there feilds from early in the morning to night. In the winter they would feed animals. They would also get wood and brush for heat so they wouldnt freeze to death. They only got a little money a day. The only things they ate were barley bread, watered ale, and sometimes cooked dried peas. If they were blessed on christmastide, they would get meat. Thats what there life was always like.

The bad things that i think was in this time is that they accused lots of people and they sometimes executed people. i think that the good thing about today is that they actually have court to decide whether their guilty or not and i think that they rarely even execute people.
ReplyDeleteLife in crispin seems like a sad life. Because peope had to work all day for someone in higher ranks than them it is as if it was making the people weak, both physically and mentally. They feared what would/could happen next, to be ashamed of themselves. They had to work to survive daily life.

ReplyDeletecatherine's life is very sad.ones of the reasons why its sad is because she feels like if she is in a prison because she dosent have that freedom that she is supposed to have.she complains about why she has to be a daughter of a knight. she also complains about having to live under alot rules.
ReplyDeleteFrom the parts that I've read his life was pretty tough.His mom passing away even made it worse for him.At least he was a serf not a slave but if he didn't work he will die and there taking away his ox.Nobody really liked his mom so I bet he felt pretty bad.I know i couldn't live in that period of time.
ReplyDeleteBack then they didnt have alot of things.you had to struggule to stay alive.and the boy crispin had no family to acually sopport him.and they did have some right,but not as much as we do now.to me it was sad to read that they had to do those things for someone with more power. if i was a lord i would feel bad for them.

ReplyDeleteThere life back then was horrible!I couldn't imagine living back then.Things then were twice as hard as they are now.For them every day is a worry, people were dying left and right. I am suprised that more people didnt comit suicideback then. It must have been even harder for Crispin, since his mom died when he was only 13 not only did he have to live back then, but he had to struggle without a mother.At least he had some meory of her since he wasn't that young
ReplyDeleteThe life of "Asta's son" seems realy tough because he just lost his mother and everything that belonged to him.The only part that seems good about his life is that he seems to have some faith and hope.The bad part of his life is that he is being accused of a crime he did not commit.
ReplyDeleteTheir daily life was horrible,Spring,Summer,Fall, and their holy days they lived like any other villager, they worked on lord Furnival's fields from dawn to dusk. In winter they fed the animals ,a ox,and a chicken-and also gathered wood brushed for heat,slept,and tried to survive their lives. The bread was raised to more of what the value of the mother's daily labor. they also barly had food, only bread,watered ale,and sometimes peas. If they had good fortune they might have a little meat on Christmas. That was their daily life.
ReplyDeleteCrispins life is very hard.His dad died at a young age,and his mom died at the begining of the story.I feel sympathy for Crispin.He ran into the woods,and hit his head on a rock.When he woke up ,the pope tried to kill him.Crispins life is very dramatic.
ReplyDeleteFrom what i can tell, he is probably a curios boy. I also think that he is shaken up about his mom dying and being chased all in the same day and night. If i were him i would bae scared and lonely. I think he will first try and find some food,watter, and shelter.
ReplyDeleteIn Catherines life it doesnt seem that Hard but it does seem pretty unfair. Catherines dad constantly ask Catherin alot of questions. Catherine explains her life as miserable wich mut be very difficult for her.
ReplyDeleteLAUREN A. TO NATALIE E. I completely agree with what you have to say about Catherine. Her life is totally unfair but also beneficial. But her life is not that difficult it is unfair. It is beneficial and not difficult because she is a nobles daughter and has barely a care in the world.

ReplyDeleteCrispins life in medevial England seems like it was pretty hard since astons pass.And it seems pretty hard for a 13 year old to be raising himself. Also the priesst told Crispin that come to church we will pray for Aston and you too.Crispin is very much puzzled right now so he is thinking about. The priests offer:))

ReplyDeleteIn the book Crispin "Asta's son" daily life is he is hiding from everyone who is hunting him. Bad parts of the day is when he has no mom or dad and he has to raise himself while staying alive. He has no good moments in the book ,so far he has been fighting for his life.

ReplyDeleteIt seemed like their lives hung in the balance of their lord. They really had no say in government and could effortlessly be hunted down and killed or tortured to death. If the steward accused you of a crime, you were immediately punished. If you had rights, you probably had very few.
ReplyDeleteLife back in those times seems extremely hard. He had no rights , no one felt bad or sorry for him. They treated him like nothing , no sympathy or anything like that. Having to grow up in those circumstances seems really difficult even more so knowing he had no one by his side , no mom and no dad not even relatives. The willpower you would need just to survive everyday life seems so powerful , i bet not even i could overcome that challenge.

He has been declared a wolf's head, his mom has just recently died, his house has been burned to the ground because he was accused of a crime he didn't commit. On the better side of things he ISN'T DEAD................................................YET.
ReplyDeletecrispins life seems really hard. he has no family and no one to talk to besides the priest. life for a peasent back then seemed really hard. even for a kid you would get hit if you did something bad. it seemed like they had to work to survive. no one cared for the peasents and if you didnt want to work they would make you live on the streets and die from hunger and thirst.
ReplyDeleteAsta's son's life is really hard and frightful. Parts of his life that are unhappy are that he no longer has a mom, he can't go back to his village since he's considered a criminal, he has to run away to survive and he's practically by himself now. The only good thing about his life is that he's still alive, but he's still being hunted down. Now, the peasant/serf life is also hard. They all seem to be struggling to survive. Atleast they have a church to have confidence in.
ReplyDeleteLife sounds like it sucked back then! Serving people (giving another an ox as a death tax for someone else) and working hard is not something I do and it must have sucked for my ancestors. I wonder what the paper that John Aycliffe was reading was about??? These people sounds like some CRAZY christians. I mean who tells some who confides in them that Jesus was teased too. I feel soooo bad for poor crispin (aka. astas son)...

ReplyDeleteCrispin's life seems really hard and sad! I mean being called only "Asta's son" can be annoying. It must be hard not having your mom, and your dad! He's probably about our age and not having your family must be really hard! And the only person that he can kind of talk to is the priest. Not having anyone can really make life seem really difficult.

I feel very bad for him bexause not only does he have to find a way to support himself, he also has to do it with no home because they cut it down. So i think daily life for him is a struggle.

ReplyDeleteCrispin's life is very difficult at this point in the book and I'm sure throughout the book he will have a problem to have to deal with. Right now it's hard, because his mother and father died and he has everyone in the town chasing after him to kill him for a crime Crispin didn't do. A good thing is that Crispin still has faith in himself. If he didn't he probably would be dead by now.

DeleteIt seems the life he lived back then was hard. Pretty harsh for a guy his age to be treated that way and for others to be able to kill him when they see him. And with his mother being kind of not liked he has no choice but to leave when they burried her and really not be able to go back to his village. ReplyDeleteit seems pretty hard in the life of crispin. The noble said to give him the ox and starve. So he ran off into the woods and saw the noble and a stranger exchanging notes, seems like it was a big plan because the noble gave chase to crispin until he fell into a small cliff and disappeared in the bushes. So I am excited to hear what comes out of the events

ReplyDeleteThe book Crispin is a very interesting story and definately leaves you at the edge of your seat at times. Crispin lives a life of poverty and always has to be looking out for people who may see him and notice who he is. To me, it doesn't really seem like there are good parts of his life. The parts that seem unhappy and scary are when he has to run away and how there are some times when he doesn't have any food so he cannot eat and has to starve. I feel really bad for him.

ReplyDeleteWhen I read to page thirteen I read that his mother died.An that they were to poor to put her in a cemmetery so they just put her in a hole.I also read that he had to give up his Ox.Also its very hard for him to get food cause hes very poor so he runs away.

ReplyDeleteI am currently reading catherine called birdy. Catherine's life seems very miserable. She constantly refers to her self as being imprisoned in her manor. She also seems to really dislike the "traditional duties" of a woman in her time period. I have noticed that she tends to disagree with her father alot. I hope they learn to get along.

ReplyDeleteCatherine's life to her is not Very pleseant because she is in her house all day long spinning. She had a really bad and boring life the only thing she did her life was pretty much spin. At times she even wished she was a villiger instead of a nobles daugter. Even though her father owned 2 manor houses they were not very big.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I found strange about Crispin is that John Aycliffe tries to kill asta's son when they are in the forest. A thing that is unhappy is that Crispin's mom died and John Aycliffe wants Crispin to give him the ox. One other thing I found strange is why Crispin ran to the forest when Father Quinel said,"Come to church, Ata's son. We'll pray."
ReplyDeleteI think that Crispin has a really hard life. The reason why is because he lives in a small house that probably has like no room in it at all. Also people would go to the bathroom in this little pot, and then they would throw there ....you know stuff on the street so it would be really gross and it would smell bad to.:[

what i would predict next is that crispin is probably going to be on his own since his mother died or he will maybe get adopted from some other family.also he will probably get caught by the towns people and get killed.
