What about Bear?/What about Catherine?

IF YOU ARE READING CRISPIN
We have spent most of our discussions describing Crispin. Now describe Bear. Points to condsider;
-Why does he behave the way he does?
-Do you think he cares for Crispin as a son?
-Is he trustworthy? How can you tell?

As always, write at least three sentences!

IF YOU ARE READING CATHERINE, CALLED BIRDY

On March 22, Catherine talks about feeling trapped by her life. Do you think boys felt the same way in that time period? Does Perkin have opportunities that Catherine doesn't? Did his lower status in life make him feel he was trapped as well? How can you tell?

These will be due on Wednesday, March 21

  1. It is hard to tell... but i gues that he would feel traped. One reason is because he does not have some of the advantages that Catherine does. But his low status life seems like hard work. I honastly feel sorry for Perkin and the other people in his situation. But I can tell that he may be ok with his life because he never really complains.

  2. Ithink he behaves that way because in his life he was soon thinking about his faith and learned not to put all of his questions to faith.I do think that he cares for Crispin as a son he takes care of him just like a son.I think he is trustworthy because he only wants what's right.

  4. Well,I have to say that I think he behaves the way he does because he was treated like that before.Sooner or later I think he will think of Crispin as a son.I don't believe he is trustworthy since he might black mail Crispin to the authorities.

  5. I am reading Catherine Called Birdy. Well I don't think that boys in that time period felt the same way. I think that a lot more freedom than girls. Girls had to do a lot of the house chores therefore they had more work.Catherine certainly thinks that Perkin has a better life than her.I think he feels the same way most of the time. I don't think he feels trapped, but he may wish that he had a life like Catherine. Or probably just lived at a status as high as hers.

  10. i think that Bear behaves the way that he does is because he loves Crispin, in a way that a father loves his son way. I do think that he cares for Crispin as a son because he was very protive when the soldiers came to hurt him. Yes, I do think that Bear is trustworthy because he was willing to risk dieing for Crispin,so that Crispin could live.

  11. I believe Bear acts the way he does because he thinks of life different then everyone else. I also think Bear acts the way he does because he plays music and throws things in the air kind of like a child. Yes, I do believe Bear thinks of Crispin as a son because he taught him a bunch of new things and doesnt treat him like his servant. I do think Bear is trustworthy because he has not let Crispin down and has always been honest. Bear has also been a great friend to Crispin almost like a father.

  12. Bear i think he's trustworthy because he has helped him out. Also he probably does care because if he didnt why would he help him out.?He probably behaves like that because he may have different feelings towards Crispin.

  13. I think that bear is excited because he got a serf. I also think that he acts the way that he acts because I think that he might of been raised that way or might want to teach Crispin a lesson. I think that Bear does like Crispin because if he didn't like him then he would have left him, he really cares about him be left him if because he would have left him all on his own ,but he is providing food for him and shelter.I think that he is trustworthy because he's giving him shelter and all he needs to have. I wouldn't trust him at first but then when you get to know him then he is a nice.

  14. I think bear treats crispin as a son because he has alway wanted a family and felt like his dad sent him away and he didnt want anyone else to feel the lonliness that he felt.I think he is trustworthy because he could have left crispin and turned him in when crispin told him he was a wolfshead but instead stayed with him, also because he told crispin that if someone attacks ccrispin in the town to run and not worry about him, so in a way he was risking his life for crispins. I think he behaves the way he does because he is a little mentally ill, but he always has the good of others at heart so he tries to throw them off and what they dont relize is that his threats actually make them do better.

I think that Bear acts the way he does is because that he is a spy. A spy always acts different. Bear also cares about Crispin like a son it tells you in the book! I think Bear is pretty cool.

  18. gabe s per 1 bear behaves the way he does because he is bear.i believe he cares for crispin as a son because if he didnt then when he met crispin, bear probably would have told crispin to leave.alas he could have lead crispin to a differant place and leave at night.to me bear is trustworthy.bear is trustworthy because i think he cares for crispin as a son and if you cared for someone that much you wouldnt be lying to them

  19. I think Bear really cares for Crispin, he would probably accept him as a son. You can tell Bear really cares for Crisping because of how he treats him. He treats him like an equal in stead of a peasant. He feeds him, taught him how to play music, and he fixed his appearance.

  20. I am reading Crispin—I think Bear behaves the way he does because he was lonely before and only wanted a friend (Crispin). He seemed kind of grumpy, easily-annoyed, and mean at first, but he warmed up like sunshine the more time he spent with his “servant” Crispin. I believe Bear thinks of Crispin as a son because he treats him really well throughout the story. He faked it when he told the townspeople that Crispin was his own son, but I think he was starting to believe it himself! I think Bear is trustworthy because he has managed to escape with Crispin this far. He has protected him like a father with a son.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I believe Bear acts the way he does because he knows things that could harm Crispin and he doesnt want to scare Crispin more than he already is.Having finished the book I know what they are. Bear definetly cares for Crispin as a son.Towards the end of the book you will see just how deeply Bear cares for Crispin. I think Bear is trustworthy because he is basically putting his life on the line for Crispin. By not killing Crispin shows that he can be trusted and that there is a purpose Bear needs Crispin to stay alive.

  22. I think behaves the way he does to protect crispin. He cares for crispin like a son because bear doesnt have family. soo crispin is his family. Bear is kinda of trust worthly but he could crispin in alot of troulbe.

  23. It seems Bear cares for Crispin. Maybe not as a son but it shows he cares. Wanting to know all about him shows so. But tying him to a tree seems a little harsh. Also teaching crispin how to juggle and play the recorders seems like he cares about him. I mean, if he didn't care for him, he probably wouldn't teach him anything. I think Bear is trustworthy.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Bear cares for crispin as a son and even more after he knew he was lord furnivals son. He is very trust worthy to crispin. I think he behaves the way he does because he is part of a club.

  25. bear is in a way rude. He will occaisionally yell at crispan. He thinks of crispan as a son because crispan is the only one bear has. Bears village was wiped out by the pleage.Sad.

  26. I believe Bear does think Crispin as a son. Bear is forgiving and cares deeply for Crispin, which any father would for their son. Bear has given Crispin a place to sleep for some time and has kept him alive and healthy. Plus, when Crispin has confronted a problem, Bear tells him a way to possibly solve it. I also believe that the more performances they do together, the more close of a bond they'll develop.

  27. Hi! Its Samantha Wachowski from 3rd period. I have a very unique perspective on Bear so far. I find him now not as crazy and phsycotic as before. The more I read on I see something in Bear that I see in very lonely, lost people. I believe he behaves the way he does because he feels lonely. I mean a large guy who travels from town to town alone, must feel homesick and at least miss where he came from and his family. I think he cares for Crispin as a son because when Crispin and Bear saw the search party for Crispin I felt a wall of trust build between the two boys. I think Bear is very trustworthy. I feel this way because when Bear had all those chances to turn Crispin in he chose not to.

  33. i dont think that guys feel that way because not a lot of guys have feelings. Well they do, but they dont have the same feeling like the way girls do. Guys can have a feeling like that, but i dont think any guy would feel so trapped in a world because they are all ready used to that home that they have. Honestly, i think they do because they are stronger inside.
I think guys back then didnt care if they were in that position, because they had a house to live at & their father owns three mannors.

  54. I am reading Crispin and I think the bear is quite a unique individual. I think its kind of cool in a way how they bond and trust each other. They got each others back and i think part of this is because they're both lonely . Crispin lost his mother & bear travels alone. I think as the story goes on , they will form an even grater wall of trust and become even closer.

  109. I am reading Catherine Called Birdy.I think that boys also might have felt trapped during that time period, but not as trapped as Catherine.Catherine had to do a lot of the house chores. She also never got to leave her house. The boys probably didn't have as many house chores and they got to leave there house.
